ABOUT

Witchford Amateur Dramatics Society (WADS) was established in 2001 by a group of local residents and has been staging pantomimes, musicals and plays in Witchford ever since. Originally, auditions were only open to residents of Witchford to give locals an opportunity to take part. However the committee recently decided to change this so that people from the wider area can take part in the productions. We found in 2105/16 that this encouraged even more talent and experience into the group whilst also making it feasible to put shows on.

Due to ever increasing costs of putting on a show (approximately £8000 this year) WADS took the hard decision to follow along the lines of other local theatre groups and introduce a performance fee for all cast members. This helps with the cost of venue hire and administration fees, as well as costumes and technical equipment.

WADS is run by a committee who are elected each year at the Annual General Meeting. Without a viable committee the society would be required to close, so we are always actively seeking new members. The committee meets every other month, occasionally more frequently in the lead up to a show and are responsible for choosing which shows to put on, agreeing a budget, how to fund them, seeking sponsorship, fundraising ideas, promotion and marketing of shows etc.

If you feel you would be able to volunteer the time to contribute to the committee please email us anytime.

Our shows have mainly taken place at Witchford Village College with one or two also being hosted by Witchford Village Hall. WADS aims to produce a show each year along with an annual talent contest - or ‘Frolics Night’ for adults and children alike.

All WADS shows encourage full community involvement and we are always on the lookout for budding stars, production team members and stage crew for future shows.

The things I have always loved about amateur dramatics is the way it brings people together. Kind of like a team sport without the running around outside in the cold in shorts and t-shirt.

Being parts of WADS is a great way for me and my family to do something together. I am fairly new to WADS and and have enjoyed it so much.

It gives me great joy to be part of this fantastic group. Bringing families together, making friends and putting on some pretty fabulous performances!
